We are proud to announce the launch of our new U16 Girls Academy at Mayfield Park.

This is a first for the club and follows the recent success of the Boys Academy.

It is open to girls of all capabilities in years 10 & 11 and we look forward to welcoming anyone looking to develop their skills further. No previous experience is necessary.

The aim of the U16 Girls Academy is to maximise the potential of all players within a team environment and develop them across all components of performance.

This will be achieved through the delivery of bespoke technical, tactical & physical programmes.

Through working together we can provide a pathway to the women's game and representative rugby, while enriching our players and equipping them with key life skills.

Academy players will be assisted, coached and guided by Gemma Fox, Kevin Fox and David Carson-White.

There will also be the opportunity to share resources and hold joint sessions with the U16 Boys Academy who are coached by former first team coach Howie Murray.

It will maintain all the fun aspects of rugby and promote the core values of Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship. With ‘Enjoyment’ being considered a fundamental aspect of the programme.

Gemma Fox, U16 Girls Academy Coach, commented: "The female game has really exploded at the club over the last year with the introduction of the Ladies team and 3 girls teams.

"We are fully committed to promoting and encouraging female participation in the sport. Launching an U16 Girls Academy to go alongside the Boys Academy further strengthens that approach.

"While the term Academy can sometimes be interpreted as the 'elite', we are keen to stress that this is an inclusive concept and we welcome players of all abilities, whether experienced or brand new to the game.

"We will empower girls to reach their full potential whilst promoting physical and social development. Ultimately we want to give all of our players a well rounded experience on and off the field.

"There’ll also be opportunities for players to gain volunteer experience and additional qualifications in areas such as coaching and First Aid. We are really excited for the upcoming season and beyond."
