Pool made 7 changes from the side defeated at Ponteland, welcoming back Tom Stead and captain Andy Small in the front row together with the back row duo of Tom Johnson and Suli. In the backs Keagen Thomas slotted into stand off, Dave Chester in the centre and Dean Ryan on the wing.
The first 10 minutes was a bit of arm wrestle between to the respective forward packs as both teams give 100%.
Pool winger Liam Pape on the 11 minute mark nearly scored his 9th try of the season with a powerful run which saw the winger chip the ball over the full back but the Shields player touched down and the danger was cleared.
The home side took the lead with a quarter of the game gone, Shields were penalised for being off side and Keagen Thomas penalty kick from 30 metres give Pool a 3-0 lead.
23 minutes, Pool started to cause the away side problems with the expansive game, the forwards drove the ball on 3 phases and Dylan Thomas fed the backs, Adam Ainley joined the back line from full back and his pass to Dean Ryan was forward and a certain try opportunity was lost.
25 minutes, Following a line out, Hartlepool scored the first try of the match. Michael Smalley caught Andy Small line out ball and Pool attacked the Shields line with Adam Williamson and Craig Holroyd making yards with a "pick and go." Shield's tackled Holroyd on the line and Tom Johnson was in support who picked up a dived over the ruck to score. Keagen Thomas conversion was successful from the touch line, 10-0.
From the kick off, the ball didn't make 10 yards and Pool were awarded a scrum on the half way line. Tom Johnson picked up from the base of the scrum and linked with Liam Pape who beat 2 players with a strong run down the wing, he was tackled by the full back but had the composure to pass to Dylan Thomas who was in support to score a well worked time try. Keagen Thomas was wide with the conversion. 15-0
35 minutes gone and Pool were in control and full back Adam Ainley joined the line and wrong footed the Shields defence beating 3 players, however the final pass to Liam Pape was dropped and the danger was cleared.
36 minutes, Keagen Thomas extended the lead with a well taken penalty. 18-0.
With Shields playing down the bank, had their best period of the game and had 10 minutes of pressure which pinned Pool in their own 22 metre line. Pool had to defend for their lives to stop wave after wave of attacks.
Flanker Suli, stole the ball at the ruck and Dylan Thomas fed Adam Ainley who passed to Andy Small, Small's kick took Pool to the Shields 5 metre line.
Pool stole the line out and the forwards drove the ball on towards the Shields line, Shields were hanging on and give away a penalty on the line. Keagen Thomas quick penalty caught the away side napping and his pass to Andy Small saw the Pool captain power over from 5 metres. 23-0
Five minutes to go, Hartlepool attacked the blind side and Ainley pass to prop Adam Williamson, saw the prop dart up the wing for a 25 metres run in and secure a bonus point with a fine try. With the conversion narrowly wide, Pool led 28-0.
The restart kick didn't make the 10 metres, Pool elected for the scrum and Tom Johnson picked up and second half substitute Patrick Wilson clever kick was caught by Dean Ryan who skipped past his opposite man to score under the posts. Keagen Thomas added the extra 2 points to give 34-0 victory..
