Pool's poor run continues against a strong Novos side.

Pool fell to a frustrating defeat in Round 7 on Saturday as Novos ran out convincing winners at Sutherland Park. Pool's finished strongly and were disappointed they just missed out on bonus point.

The home team started the brighter and put Pool under the cosh and after five minutes they scored the opening try of the afternoon ,when a series of forwards drive saw a second row dive over from close quarters. 7-0

Pool were defending well with Alex Sharp and Max Filby in the thick of the action however the host looked dangerous when ever the backs had the ball.

Novos scored a deserved second try when the number 8 took a quick penalty from 10 metres out and showed great determination to score under the post . 14-0

On the half hour mark , Pool crafted the first try scoring opportunity , Tazz Pelser took a quick penalty and attacked the blind side, Liam Mcmenemy in supported cleaned out the ruck and Keagen Thomas fed the backs before second row Liam Pape ran a great line but as he beat the first defender , the ball was knocked out of his grasp and Novos reacted quickly and a great counter attack saw the winger speed away for the third try . The home kicker was on fire and added the extra two points 21-0.

The home team continued their clinical nature and a series of forwards pick up and goes,, saw an opening created and fast hands in the back saw the fourth try of the afternoon. 28-0.

Pool finished the first half with some sustained pressure in the home 22 line . Liam Pape caught Adam Williamson line out throw and the forwards drove on with Dave Chester and Michael Smalley involved . Liam Pape then broke away and looked likely to score but the ball was knocked out of his grasp. Pool shoved their opponents off the ball and from the resultant ruck, Tom Stead was held up on the try line and the referee blew for half time.

The away side were looking to continue the strong finish of the first half and take the momentum into the second period however Novos had other ideas and two quick fire tries through their dangerous back saw the score move onto 42-0.

A yellow card for Liam Pape for handling at the ruck saw Pool reduced to 14 players , despite their inferior numbers , Pool scored the first try of the afternoon, Pool won a penalty in the Novos 22 and quick penalty saw the forwards and backs handle before Aaron Jeffrey dived over from close range for a deserved team try. Lewis Wilson conversion out wide sailed through the uprights 42-7.

The try give the Pool team more believe and a great interchange between Max Filby and Tazz Pelser saw the away team move from 22 to 22 metre line , Tom Stead them joined in attack however the ball was spilled in contact and the home side broke away for the 7th try of the afternoon. 49-7.

In a open game, Pool went back on the attack with Max Filby and Danny Cooper causing problems in the home defence and series of penalties saw the Novos prop yellow card for a number of team infringement's. .

With 15 minutes remaining , Pool continued to shove the home scrummage off the ball and from the scrum Anthony Emmanuel ran a strong line but was illegally hauled down and penalty was awarded and Tazz Pelser took the penalty and passed to Neil Stead who shipped in outside to to his brother Tom was stormed over for the 2nd try of the afternoon. Lewis conversion made the score 49-14.

Sub Ben Kitchen caused problems with a strong run and took play up the 22 metre line but unfortunately Pool lost the ball in contact in the next phase and the home backs ran 60 metres to score under the posts.56-14..

The away side finished the stronger and quick penalty taken by Pelser saw the scrum half illegally tripped and yellow card was issued to the offending prop and as it was second yellow card, the referee then produced a red card.

Pool elected for a scrum and from the forwards set piece , quick hands in the backs saw Anthony EmmanueL touch down for Pool's third try. Lewis Wilson added the conversion to leave the final score at 56-21.
