Last season Winlaton caused an upset at Mayfield Park with a 17-24 victory but that was firmly put to bed on Saturday as Pool ran in 9 tries against the visitors.

Pool made one change from last Saturday's line up with County Under 18 lock Shave Ivey replacing Sam Kitching in the second row.

The home team won the toss and elected to play up the bank for the first period. After 4 minutes, Pool nearly drew first blood with an excellent lightening break which saw the blind side attacked, Tyler Hall showed great strength to cross the line but the referee saw a knock on in the build up and the try was disallowed.

10 minutes on the clock and the away team scored against the run of play with a fine try. Winlaton took a quick penalty 30 metres from the Pool line and with the Pool defence napping, the scrum half scored in the corner for a fine opportunist try. The difficult touchline kick was missed. 0-5

Pool were soon level when from a line out, Michael Smalley caught Andy Small's throw and the forwards drove on before the Captain touched down with Jonathan Carney in support. Anthony Lawrence conversion was missed. 5-5

Centre Alex Winter made a trademark run from his own 22 taking play into the Winlaton 22. The away side were then for penalised for slowing the ball down at the ruck. The penalty was kicked for a line out and off the top ball saw prop Adam Williamson pass to flanker Liam Pape who scored under the posts for a well worked try. Lawrence accurate conversion made the score 12-5.

With 30 minutes played, Pool attacked from deep and all the backs handled before winger Dean Ryan outpaced his opposite number to score in the corner. 17-5

Pool were now completely in control and after a number of infringements by the away side, the referee produced a yellow card for persistent offences .

Just before half time, centre Tom Lister made a break beating two players before feeding Alex Winter who skipped past the last defender to score under the posts. Lawrence conversion was true. 26-5

On resumption of play, Pool attacked from the outset and went further ahead when sub Phil Stevenson made a fine break taking on two players before passing to Carney in support who stepped the full back to score under the posts. Lawrence conversion was true. 31-5

With the bit between their teeth, Pool roared back again, attacking the visitors line. This time lock Shane Ivey was in the thick off the action with a strong run, once he was halted the forwards drove the ball on. Adam Ainley then soared through a gap to feed Carney who touched down for the 6th try. Lawrence kick sailed through the posts. 38-5

From a line out 20 metres out, Jon Carney flipped the ball to Tom Johnson who barged over to score. 43-5

With Pool on the offence, Anthony Lawrence picked up a dropped ball and had the composure to fly kick through and pounce on the ball to in the corner. 48-5

With 5 minutes remaining, Lawrence attacked from deep and when he was felled by a high tackle, Jim Greensmith took a quick penalty to score under the posts. Lawrence's conversion sailed through the posts for a final score of 55-5.

Alex Winter was awarded the Hungry Tums Man of the Match award for another fine display.
