From the kick off , Pool immediately put the hosts under pressure , however it wasn’t until the sixth minute that they took a deserved lead.
Winger Tyler Hall showed great strength to break out of a tackle and when he was eventually stopped , the forwards recycled the ball and Adam Ainley attacked the blind flank and the stand off coolly passed to Lewis Wilson who showed great composure to score . He converted his own try and Pool led 7-0
Tazz Pelser nearly doubled the Pool try count on the 10 minute mark , the ball squirted out of a scrum and Tazz reacted first and in one movement flicked the ball up and just as he was about to score the ball was knocked forward .
After the early set back, the host grew in confident and crafted an excellent team try , Ashington worked the ball through backs and made 40 metres before Pool were on the breakdown , the resulted penalty was quickly ran which lead to the home hooker barrelling over from close range. 7-7
In a purple batch for the Northumbrian’s , five minute later the same player scored again to double the team try count .14-7.
Pool were pushing to get back into the game as the game edged towards the end of the first half , a quickly taken penalty by Adam Williamson saw Pool made ground, unfortunately a knock on in middle field saw the momentum halted.
However the next passage of play saw Pool pressure the host into a mistake and a fine Dave Chester tackle bundled his opposite man into touch. From the line out , Jon Carney's clean "off the top ball" got the backs away and after another break by the veteran stand off Adam Ainley, Tazz Pelser was on hand to finish supremely by darting through a gap which Lewis Wilson duly converted ,14-14.
The second half saw Pool continue to pressure and after turning down a kickable penalty in front of the posts , the away side ran the penalty and after several near missus, Kieran Watson powered over from short range. Lewis Wilson kicked the touchline conversion and Pool led by 14 - 21-
In an entertaining game for the sizeable crowd, the home side came back into the game and put Pool under pressure , two penalties were ran as Pool defender for their lives with the Riley brothers in the thick of the action. Unfortunately for Pool, a third penalty saw Shane Ivey yellow carded for a team offence and Pool were down to 14 players and from the next scrum Ashington extra man provided to be pivotal as the home prop scored from close range to bring the game level 21-21
With ten minutes remaining , Ashington took the lead for the second time, the ball was stolen from the breakdown and the winger broke away to score in the corner for the 4th try. 26-21.
The try shocked Pool into a response and as Pool applied the pressure, the Ashington number 8 was penalised for a high tackle. From the resultant line out, quick ball saw the backs handle before Callum Whitehead punched a hole in the defence before flanker Jon Carney picked up and side stepped the full back to score under the posts. Lewis Wilson calmly stroked the conversion to put Pool ahead again 26-28.
From the kick off, Pool immediately went on the offence and Harry Mayes made ground attacking the blind side and when he was eventually stopped, Tazz Pelser was on hand to score from the half way line , Lewis Wilson made in 5 out 5 conversions with a regimental kick which extended the lead to 26-35.
Saturday sees Pool entertain Whitby at Mayfield Park in another "must win game."
