Sad News

Rovers members and supporters will be saddened to learn of the tragic death of former player John Seymour. A tractor John was driving on his son's farm in Stokesley turned over with him in it on Thursday.

Our sympathies are with John's family and friends. His grandson, Sam Seymour, played against Rovers for Westoe last season.

John was a rumbustious tight head prop for Rovers in the 60s and early 70s before moving to Middlesbrough Rugby Club to be nearer his farm in Stokesley. He has the perhaps unique distinction of playing at County level for all three North East counties in his career. Firstly he played for Northumberland while at Newcastle University, then with Durham when at Rovers and finally after moving to Middlesbrough he turned out for Yorkshire. A remarkable achievement.

The, rather grainy, picture is of John in 1969 playing in Old Boys 75th anniversary game. He is in the centre of the middle row.
