The Whites, as a result, have fallen to a Durham Northumberland One double at the hands of Acklam and two late tries for the hosts meant that Rovers missed out on the consolation of a losing bonus point.
For all Rovers tried hard, it was always going to be a difficult task, even against a fourth bottom club with only four wins against their name, with a 15 man list of unavailability.
After Marcus Sudron had badly missed with a ninth minute penalty, Dan Ashton went over with his pack for the opening try on 15 minutes but James Evens pulled three points back with a penalty from 27 metres on 23 minutes.
A left wing move brought a second try for Acklam after 27 minutes for Sudron and Danny Charters then had a ‘try’ disallowed three minutes before the interval with Mr Hodgson saying the number eight had dived over the line with a double movement.
The second half was only three minutes old when Sudron slotted an 18 metre penalty for a 13-3 lead that grew to 20-3 on 52 minutes when Chris Walker crossed to the right of the posts, Sudron adding the extra points.
The Friaragemen ran straight back at Acklam and Steven Railton broke from a scrum in midfield to run well to the line, Steven Barnfield converting.
Some of this good work was undone after 60 minutes when Acklam created an overlap for Ashton to touchdown in the left hand corner for a 25-10 home lead.
Rovers hit back again three minutes later when Tom Stead scored after Steve Smith had been hauled down just short of the line, Barnfield kicked the conversion and the lead had been reduced to 25-17 and within four minutes it was 25-22.
Railton showed his powerful running again to storm home from over 30 metres out and there were hopes of a fightback.
These were partially dashed on 73 minutes when Ashton stole in when Acklam ran a close range penalty when an easy kick was on offer, the scrum half converted his own try and Acklam led 32-22.
The match ended badly for the White Shirts when their attack inside the home half broke down and when Acklam countered to the Rovers’22, Ashton kicked over the defensive line and touched down for the winning 37-22 lead.
Rovers are set for a week off before hosting table-topping Durham City next time out at the New Friarage.
