Top of the table clash
Saturday 5.8.17 saw the 1st XI put themselves back in the mix, with an emphatic away win over promotion rivals Wootton Sports Club CC 1st XI. HCC won the toss, deciding to put Wootton into bat on a damp wicket. Wootton were skittled out for 92, with a fine bowling display from Mohammed Nusrat, back from a month away and taking 6 for 3 (including a hat trick). The match saw a fine bowling and fielding display from the team.
HCC knocked off runs relatively easily, with contributions from Mazhar Iqbal (22), an undefeated 22 from Jake Sharpe, Jake Redfern (15), and Matt Eames (12). Final result 94/3.
This resulted in a stunning 7 wicket win, earning the team 22 points.
Despite difficult start 1st XI rise to 3rd place
This was followed by another win on Saturday 12.8.17 against Elvaston 3rd XI at home. Losing the toss HCC couldn’t have begun any worse, finding themselves 17 for 5 on a slow track! However, a brilliant knock by Jake Redfern (76) held the innings together. He was well supported by Darryl Clamp (26) and Mohammed Nusrat (16), helping to set a target of 155 for the visitors, giving HCC something to bowl at.
There were excellent bowling performances from Jack Ashcroft 4 for 42 including the last wicket. Mohammed Nusrat 2 for 37, and a fine spell from Jake Sharpe who took 3 important wickets for 7. This had Elvaston all out for 130, despite good resistance on their part.
Our 1st XI had a comprehensive win by 25 runs and earning 27 points. This has moved the team into 3rd place and only 1 point behind 2nd – so now in close contention for promotion.
