Match Preview ahead of Saturdays away trip to Bakewell Town

On Saturday we travel to Bakewell Recreation Ground to take on Bakewell Town in Central Midlands League action. As always, your support is greatly appreciated by everybody at the club. The address for the ground is Haddon Road, Bakewell, DE45 1AW. Kick off is at 2PM.

We currently sit in sixth position in the league table, with 21 points from our opening 16 fixtures. On Saturday our game away at Thorne Colliery was postponed. On Saturday 14th January we drew 2-2 at home to Staveley Miners Welfare Reserves, with Bayley Lowe getting both Colliery goals. On Saturday 7th January we lost 3-0 at home to Retford United. On Wednesday 21st December we drew 2-2 away at Retford United, with Josh Fraiwald scoring both Colliery goals. On Saturday 3rd December we drew 4-4 away at Staveley Miners Welfare Reserves, with Josh Fraiwald scoring twice and the other Colliery goals coming from Matt Gains and Cory Goodwin.

Moving on to our hosts and Bakewell FC were represented at the inaugural meeting held at the Midland Hotel in Derby in September 1883 where an Association of Derbyshire Football Clubs was formed & called the Derbyshire Football Association. It is believed that organised football has been played in Bakewell ever since with the eldest photo held on record taken in the town and believed to date back to between 1891 - 1897. Having played in all three of the Hope Valley Divisions in the 80s and 90s an increase in interest for football in the town resulted in an eventual saturation of playing resource as three teams Bakewell FC, Bakewell Wheatsheaf FC 1st and Reserves met at the Manners Public House Hotel to broker a merger at the end of the 1999/2000 season. This saw two teams, a First Team and Reserve side playing under the banner of Bakewell Town FC. The club secured its first Hope Valley Premier League Title with the addition of the League Cup in the same successful 2016/17 campaign. After one more season of HVL football Bakewell Town FC then took a plunge into the unknown and joined the Central Midlands Division One South. Last season they finished top of Division One Central, with 14 wins, one draw and one loss coming from their 16 fixtures.

They currently sit in 11th position in the table, with 11 points from their opening 10 fixtures. On Saturday they’re fixture at home to St Josephs was postponed. On Saturday 7th January they lost 3-2 away at St Josephs, with Rob Littlewood and Harrison Watson scoring. On Saturday 3rd December they lost 1-0 away at Glapwell in the Derbyshire Divisional Cup.

One to watch for Bakewell Town will be Louie Davies. So far this season he has scored six times in 11 appearances.

This will be the first meeting between the sides in the league. The sides did meet earlier this season at the Jones & Co Recreational Ground in the Buckingham Insurance League Cup, with Bakewell Town winning 4-3. Rio Allan scored twice for Colliery, with Harry Dunbar getting the other goal. Aarron Maund scored twice for Bakewell Town, with Ben Brown and Alex Moth getting the other goals.

Next up after this fixture we face Thorne Colliery at home on Saturday 11th February. Previous results at home to Thorne Colliery:
