Home Vs Harpenden Town

Today the blue boys entertain local rivals Harpenden Town for the 2nd time in 11 days, but this time, it was in a top of the table clash, in the Spartan South Midlands League Division 1.

Both teams started the game fully intent on keeping there unbeaten record in the league, with neither side unbeaten losing a league game to date. But it was the homeside started with more purpose than our visitors.

The opening goal was scored by STEVEN HARPER after a clinical move in the 25th min. Both sides played attacking football,
But a mix up between Harpenden defence and their goal keeper allowed AARON LEWIS to score on the 46th min to give Hatfield
a 2-0 lead at the interval.

The second half saw the same counter attacking football from both sides, with Harpenden hitting the post and crossbar. STEVEN HARPER was subsituted on 78th min., after a fine performance and was replaced by MATT HODGES.
Towards the end of the game, GARY WARN was replaced by CHRISTIANO NETO In the 88th min.

But the real talking point was the awarding of a penalty to Harpenden only for the referee to overturn his original decision
after a long discussion with his assistant. As you would expect Harpenden were aggrieved by the decision, but common sense
won the day. The result moves Hatfield Town to second in the table.
