Away to Codicote Fc

Eleven days after both sides met in league action, Tuesday nights encounter was the second round of the Challenge Trophy on a rather wet and cold Gosling Stadium. With the playing surface rather greasy both sides soon adapted to the playing conditions with Codicote taking the lead on 14 minutes. Hatfield searched for an opening in the homeside defence and on 34 minutes Gary Sippetts was fouled just outside the penalty area. The resulting free kick saw Steven Harper score with a superb shot to level the score at 1-1. From this point Hatfield had the better of the remainder of the first half. On the stroke of half time referee Panconi booked Joel Williams for dissent. The Blue Boys took the lead on 50 minutes with a slick move down the right hand side with Aaron Lewis scoring by beating the advancing Codicote keeper, 2-1 to Hatfield. . With the resulting pressure Codicote equalised on 53 minutes when a shot went under the Blue Boys keeper Allan Buck’s body. Now with the score 2-2, the first Hatfield substitution came when Ben Collins limped off to be replaced by Callum Hailey on 58 minutes. Both sides continued to probe each others defences , and on 72 minutes Aaron Lewis scored his second goal of the game by completing another well executed move started by Jack Robertson for Gary Sippetts to supply the pass for Aaron to score. With the score 3-2 Hatfield made further substitutions when Steven Harper was replaced by Jack Budge on 77minutes.Hatfield’s final change occurred on 80 minutes when Ian Hurst was replaced by Cristiano Neto. Codicote then scored on 82 minutes to level at 3-3. At this point the visiting support began to wonder if Hatfield’s poor cup record was going to happen again. Once again the Blue Boys did not disappoint, when on 91minutes they allowed Codicote to score the winning goal. This result means Hatfield Town are out of all cup competitions for this season. On the night Codicote deserved the win, their players never gave up.
