Vs Totternhoe

Hatfield Town ended their four game run without a win last night against Division Two flyers Totternhoe in the League Challenge Trophy.

Hatfield started the game brightly and could have taken the lead Inside the first minute. Striker Dean Caines was put though on goal, the visitors keeper raced off his line but Caines touch was too heavy as he went round him and failed to take his chance. Hatfield continued do dominate and it was a huge blow when they found themselves a goal down on 13 minutes completely against the run of play. Hatfield gave the ball away in midfield and Tottenhoe produced a good move which saw them through on goal, keeper Sam Lacey could only get a hand to the cross come shot and Hatfield were 1-0 down. With the way Hatfield's luck was going at the moment, if it wasn't for bad luck they'd have no luck at all! Hatfield did draw level 13 minutes later. Bruce Tahon whipped a free kick into the Tottenhoe box, the lose ball fell to Richard Cooke who scuffed a shot into the net. Hatfield were level and that was the score going into the break.

The second half began in even fashion, both teams tried to take a hold of the game. Hatfield did not have to wait long to take the lead. Right Back Andrew Simmons went on a busting run which started on the edge of the Hatfield penalty box, he drove nearly the whole length of the field and sent Callum Wickham clear and he stabbed the ball home 2-1 to the home side. The third goal came 10 minutes later. It was Wickham again finding space in the Tottenhoe box, this time he unleashed a cracking effort into the top corner with the outside of his boot, 3-1 to Hatfield now. Tottenhoe did their best to force themselves back into the game and keeper Sam Lacey produced a couple important saves, substitute Humzan Kahn headed the ball off the line but Hatfield hung on and claimed the 3-1 win.

After the game manger Kev Pearman was in good spirits and was full of praise "we haven't won in four games and there has been a lot of negatively creeping into the camp. Myself and Bowler asked the boys for a response tonight, we wanted the boys to play from the off. We've been poor in the first half a lot this season, tonight was different, we looked committed from the off. It was nice to see the boys enjoying themselves out there tonight. Hopefully this can be a turning point for us" Pearman was also very critical of the way in which Hatfield's fixtures have been dealt with "we had a two weeks with no game in early September, we now do my play again till Saturday 3rd October, we also have two weeks off at the beginning of November. It's just so frustrating, how can we build any rhythm with all them breaks? Something has got to change because that's not acceptable"

The Warren Vehicle Sales Man of the Match was Callum Wickham
