WOW! What a game of football that was! ??

The girls certainly gave us a match to remember today with a fantastic comeback, showing incredible determination, belief and a never-give-up attitude!

We were a little asleep out of the blocks, but once we settled into the game, we became very dominant in possession, moving the ball well and creating plenty of chances. Marple Athletic’s goalkeeper was absolutely outstanding, making some brilliant saves, including an incredible triple save towards the end of the first half! ??

Nylah had a great effort from distance that took a deflection for a corner, while our midfield trio of Maisie, Arabella and Alice produced some fantastic runs and efforts on goal. There were some lovely passages of play and plenty of positives to take into the second half.

Unfortunately, we got caught napping after the break, conceding an own goal before Marple Athletic capitalised on a counterattack. However, the girls deserve huge credit for how they responded. They didn’t let their heads drop and continued to fight their way back into the game.

⚽ Ellie got us back into the match with a well-taken goal, giving the girls belief and momentum!

We continued to dominate and made a change up front, moving Willow into a more advanced position to put pressure on their defence. The change paid off as Willow produced a fantastic goal from distance! What a strike! ?

With the momentum firmly behind us, the girls kept pushing and pushing for the winner. Their hard work and persistence were rewarded when Carmen fired home a brilliant effort from distance into the top corner to complete an incredible comeback! ⚽?

At the back, Jess did really well defensively, and it was great to see the confidence the girls showed when playing out from defence. Some of the passing from the back right through to the front was excellent and a real pleasure to watch.

Ellie also made some good saves to help keep us in the game. ??

? Player of the Match – Willow ?

Willow thoroughly deserved her award today. Despite playing out of position, she worked tirelessly, pressed their defence brilliantly and never stopped giving her all. To top it off with that fantastic goal was the icing on the cake! Well done, Willow! ??

? Vernon Bear Mascot Award – Carmen ?

Congratulations to Carmen! She never gave up, kept working hard for the team and delivered that incredible winning goal into the top corner. A fantastic moment and a thoroughly deserved award! ??

Overall, an absolutely brilliant comeback and a fantastic team effort! There are still things for us to work on, particularly our starts and concentration, but the way the girls responded when things weren’t going their way was fantastic.

The passing, movement, attacking intent and belief shown throughout the game were a pleasure to watch. The girls showed that by working hard, supporting one another and believing in themselves, they can overcome challenges and produce some fantastic football.
