Havant blew away Dartfordians in an emphatic performance scoring 14 tries and a club record six for winger James Wise

Having won at Medway the week previously the home side knew today's game was all about getting the appoach right and keeping focus . Dartfordians are a dangerous side and especially when they are fighting for their London 1 lives.

The home side welcomed back Wayne Dugan in the centre with an unchanged pack from the previous week. In the Dartfordians side former Havant favourite Sam Cooksley lined up at hooker.

Havant were looking for a fats start but I am not sure they ever felt it could be that fast. From the kick off the home side played their systems well, held Darts around the ruck and then moved the ball out to James Wise who powered in for the firs of his six tries and all within 30 secs.

Perhaps this start gave the blue and whites a false sense of security because what followed was a defensive showing that was unrecognisable from the wall presented at Medway. Darts pounded the Havant line and eventually it was Sam Cooksley that got across for their opening score.

Within minutes Havant had scored again at the other end. As the ball broke loose after a poor attempted clearance by Dartfordians. James Wise took matters into his own hands and found space to score. Joel Knight adding his first conversion of the day.

One minute later Wise had completed his hatrick. Havant again demonstrating excellent power matched by some fantastic handling to give Wise space to score. Joel Knight added the extras and Darts supporters must have thought the writing was on the wall.

Within another five minutes Wise had try number four and a bonus point. The Havant machine in attack proving just too much for Darts and the accuracy of passing in the pack and across the line was excellent .

To their credit Darts played a full part for the whole 80 minutes and it was the Kent side that scored next. Good approach play by the pack and a missed Havant tackle allowing them in for a converted score.

As with the last Darts score the reaction was immediate and decisive. Having won their own restart back Havant moved the ball to Knight at 10 who stepped the his defenders and created space for Joe Moore to power away for a well taken try, again Knight was accurate with the conversion.

Knight was the provider again for the next score after a clean break he found Wayne Dugan who drew the last defenders and found Richie Janes running a perfect support line for the lock forward to go over under the post. Knight adding the conversion.

Darts came back again and were pressing the Havant line when the referee adjudged Steve Cruddas to have made a no arms tackle. The fact that the tackle was made about an inch above the ground and with such intensity that the tackled player shot over Steve's shoulder was of no interest to the man in the middle and Cruddas was despatched to the bin.

Darts continued to press and got their rewards as Havant were dropping off a few tackles, a score wide on the right for the visitors.

Half-time: Havant 38 Dartfordians 17

Bizarrely the half-time huddle for Havant looked far from relaxed despite the score. The coaches and senior players clearly laying down expectations and the team-talk appeared to have worked its magic.

Within one minute Havant had scored again. Hooker Jerome Trail showing all his attacking attributes for a fabulous individual score. Taking the ball on the 22 he bounced, twisted and eventually sprinted away to score under the posts. Knight adding the extras.

Skipper Joel Knight who had been pulling the strings all afternoon, grabbed a try for himself with a lovely piece of individual skill a deft chip over the defence which he regathered himself and sprinted away to score and then convert himself.

It had now become one way traffic and next to score was Rory Penfold, an attack swept blind and the fullback showed excellent power to force his way over.

Returning Wayne Dugan was keen to get in on the scoring act. The powerful centre reading play beautifully. Joel Knight again found space with a chip over the Darts defensive line and regathered before Dugan timed his line perfectly and had too much pace and power for the Darts cover. Skipper Knight adding the extras again.

Next up Sean Shepherd, good approach play and the replacement hooker tracking excellently to pop up on the shoulder of the backs and drive over. Conversion good - Knight.

After his 4 tries in 17 minutes, James Wise clearly decided it was time for more. Try number 5 was a fine individual gathering the ball out wide, bouncing players and then having too much gas to get away. Knight again accurate with the conversion.

Darts came back and scored a try wide on the left through their full back before it was normal service resumed and Wise again going over on the back of a forward effort close to the Darts line. Try number six and matching the record for number of tries scored in one game and setting a record for the most tries ever scored in a league game by one player.

As the game drew to a close Havant had time to construct one more excellent score. Stretching Darts from side to side before the Dugan brothers combined to find space at the edge of a ruck and Wayne powered over for his second. Joel Knight adding the conversion to bring the game to a close.

Havant were blistering in attack today and when they moved the ball Darts had no answer to the power and accuracy they were able to show. The coaches and players will no doubt ask some questions about how they let Darts get 4 tries but must give credit to the resolve and determination of the men from Kent.

Next week the focus is Hampshire Cup rugby against the Jersey Reds.

Havant Coach Will Knight,

"Great credit to Dartfordians today, that was a difficult day for them and they never stopped coming and to get a bonus point was well deserved."

"We were outstanding, at times, in attack. The power and accuracy of some of our play is exactly what we have been trying to work towards in training."

"The half backs really controlled things well today and Wisey will not forget this one for a while. The last time anyone scored six was back in the 90s, Adam Jewitt in the cup against Gosport and I think Dave Timmington at Hornets. It has never been done before in the league I don't think. We created the chances and he showed he is a really good finisher."

"The mark of this group is probably that they were more focused on the defensive errors than they were the 92 points they had scored."

"We said today this was about us deciding what was an acceptable outcome for us. it is easy to settle for scraping the win in these types of game but I think you can see the boys wanted more."
