Manager Stuart Ferguson is thrilled with his girls performance to win the Final at a football tournament held by Histon FC on Sunday, 11 July 2016.

The Haverhill Rovers current U14's girls team took part in a very well organised football tournament held by Histon Football Club in Cambridge on Sunday 11th July 2016.

For the last 4 years the team has been training and playing for Rovers and boast a great bunch of girls. They are funny, talented and all round football players with loads of passion, win, lose or draw.

When the team has lost, it has been a big loss, 16-0 comes to mind, but win or lose they always come off the pitch with a smile and normally understand what maybe goes wrong and then learn from it.

Over the years the team has entered several tournaments and have normally been knocked out very early on, but on this day in July they were on fire, full of passion, and eager to play scoring our opening goal in a record 30 seconds from kick off!

This just fuelled their game even more working through the teams, winning all, bar 2 games, seeing us placed in the semi finals - a first everfor the team. With a super charged team effort we beat of the Histon Hornets in the Semi-Final, holding them to 1-0, so on to the finals we went.

The atmosphere was amazing. All the parents so supportive driving the teams passion on and on.

The final arrived - Haverhill Rovers v Burwell Tigers. This was not a team we had ever played, but their standard was pretty spot on, with some equally very talented girls.

The first half was goalless, so a couple of changes and into the second half we went.

The refs whistle blew and still no goals. Extra time was played and still no goals!

Penalties now - not my most favourite part of the game for me, but with our talented strikers lined up and our great keeper we started. Burwell Tigers took the first and our keeper made the first save of three saves..

Haverhill Rovers hit the net every time, winning us the tournament.

So many emotions that i've not experienced before as a manager. So so proud of the girls and to be a part of their team makes it even more special for me.

To spend many hours trying to help your team understand the game and train and when you do win something it gives the team a massive confidence boost and makes it all worthwhile.

Over the tanoy comes the result, Haverhill Rovers U14 Girls are the winners of their tournament.

Then the best bit, I had forgotten that there was an award for the best fair play too. The girls bagged the double and scooped this too!

This shows me much more about my team, they are a great bunch of ladies!

Great to be a part of women's football, if you work hard and believe in yourself then nothing will stop you achieving your goals.

Stuart Ferguson - One super proud Manager of the U14's Girls.
