The hosts’ best chance in the first half came from the left boot of Luke Haines, whose turn and shot from 25 yards out curling on to the foot of the far left post with ‘keeper Will Viner beaten.
Haverhill pushed for an equaliser and it eventually came on 73 minutes, an interchange of passes ending with Jordan Palmer giving the ball forward to Josh Revell who, standing in a central position 35 yards out, hit a shot that went over Viner and into the net.
The home side rushed to get the ball and keep the advantage going, which again brought dividends two minutes later, Palmer’s flick header getting Ben Tait into a promising position; the latter’s effort was blocked back to him and he unselfishly gave the ball to substitute Tyger Smalls, who flicked and then struck a thunderous volley from the right corner of the six yard box that crashed into the net, clipping the underside of the bar as it found the net while Viner attempted a save to block it.
