Two minutes later it was Haverhill themselves that went ahead, some good work by Luke Haines finished off by Max Dinnell, who scored his first goal for the club as he put the ball under ‘keeper Lewis Higgins and into the far bottom right corner.
This lead was doubled in the 27th minute, the ball coming out to Sam Mills on the right wing in line with the edge of the area; Mills put in a pinpoint cross and Jordan Palmer went across the defender and rose to head the ball in at the near post.
Two became three with 33 minutes gone, Haines’ free kick deflected off the side of a Whitton defender and brushing past the opposite post to go behind for a corner; Haines’ corner from the right was then met by the head of Palmer at the same post to find the top corner and his second of the afternoon.
Whitton pulled a goal back through Josh Hubert on 42 minutes to leave the score 3-1 at the break.
Two more good saves in the second half from Egan stopped Jacob Lay and Liam Wales from putting the away side within a goal of their opponents, half time substitute Tyger Smalls making it 4-1 after 68 minutes after Haines' short corner to Kieran Michaels was clipped in and Dinnell’s header fell for Smalls to swept in at the near left post.
Whitton made the finish interesting with a second goal in the 79th minute, Garrett running on to a cross before his touch and shot was palmed away by Egan, only for Adam Dunnage to slide the ball home under pressure.
