Quins brought back down to earth after last weeks big win

The Harlequins travelled to North Berwick on Saturday with confidence still high after thrashing Forrester 97-7 last week, but there confidence was short lived and came crashing back down to earth with a 43-0 thumping courtesy of the east coast side. Playing in an ever changing swirling wind the Quins found themselves struggling from the get go. The host kicked well and got some good territory in the Quins 22. The referee made some very interesting decisions in awarding the hosts some dodgy penalties and North Berwick took their chance and converted to take a 3-0 lead. Having the ref against them early on in the match set the standard for the rest of the match as Quins struggled to get any 50/50 decision and conceded well into double figures in the penalty count. North Berwick again kicked well in the windy conditions and were back on the front foot in the red zone, with the Quins struggling to hold them out the hosts scored 3 tries in the first 30 minutes to have a commanding 24-0 lead. Having been defending for almost the entire first half the Quins finally got some ball and the forward pack came within a few metres of the line a couple of times but the North Berwick defence held firm and the scrambled clear. At half time the Baker Street men still had hoped that they could get back in this but having only had around 30% possession they knew it was going to be a tough ask. In the second half things got even tougher when captain Gav Douglas received 10 minutes in the bin after conceding a penalty and then talking back to the ref. The hosts were now completely in the driving seat and made sure their numerical advantage paid of scoring 2 converted tries during the sin bin period. When back to full numbers, vice captain Gary Rodgerson followed suit to the sin bin after the ref deemed his turnover illegal. Again North Berwick took advantage of the sin bin and scored an unconverted try. The Quins fought hard to get a score on the board but unfortunately they fell short and never really looked like causing the North Berwick defence any really problems. Although the referee had a poor game and failed to allow things to go in terms of advantage, the Quins only have themselves to blame for their embarrassing 43-0 defeat. Having had a good start to the season they know Saturdays result was simply not good enough. On a positive note Craig Richardson made a return to the front row after being out injured for 2 years after surgery on his knee. Quins take on league leaders Dunbar this weekend hoping to get back to winning ways.
