Hawick Waverley travelled to play Coldstream Amateurs to play their final match of the 2025/26 season. The match was also the last game of Mick Hope's tenure as manager and having won the last two matches against St Boswells & Hawick Legion, he hoped that the team would give him a good send off with a positive performance. His wish was granted as Waverley played some very nice football in spells and despite losin an early goal, ran out comfortable winners.

The home side took a 7th minute lead, a cross from the right should have been dealt with but eluded keeper Calvin Longstaff and found the corner of the net. Waverley recovered from the early concession and dominated for long periods of the half. Charlie Hope got a sighting of goal but dragged his shot wide before a corner kick was picked up by Deacon Law who drilled in a shot that was parried by Coldstream keeper Luc Glasper and there were no takers for the loose ball. Bright Emokpae was next to try his luck, his shot saved after a Sean Solley cross then the same player fired wide from a Louis Bonini centre.

Waverley continued to probe for the equaliser and Dion Law was put through on goal by Hope but again, Glasper came to Coldstream's rescue with another fine block. Pressure eventually told and Waverley levelled in the 34th minute when Deacon Laws corner kick was met by Aiden Reilly and he bulleted a fine header into the roof of the net from 8 yards. Within two minutes, Waverley took the lead when referee Raymond Hume pointed to the spot when Dion Law was fouled in the area. Up stepped Paul Young and his well struck penalty found the corner of the net with Glasper going the opposite way.

Solley had a shot deflected away and Glasper blocked a Reilly shot as Waverley looked for another goal, which they did manage in time added on. Emokpae broke through the home defence and although his initial effort was saved, he was not to be denied and he kept his composure to drill the rebound into the goal at the near post.

Coldstream started the second half in a more positive manner, with Solley and Reilly chasing back to thwart Kieran Hume who got in behind the Waverley defence and was bearing down on goal. Waverley were soon back on the attack, Calder Laws shot hitting his brother while a Bonini effort was also blocked.

Calder Law then set up Emokpae and he took a touch before firing in a shot that was deflected wide. Coldstream's clearest chance of the second half fell to Billy Innes, who had a clear sight of goal when the ball fell to him from a free kick but he dragged his shot wide.

As the game entered the closing stages, Emokpae hit a rising drive from the edge of the area which cleared the crossbar. Waverley notched their fourth goal of the game with 5 minutes remaining, Charlie Hope's free kick was met by Calder Law and his well placed header beat Glasper to make it 4-1 and end the scoring.

Waverley finish the season with three victories in what at times has been a very testing campaign, their league record showing 8 wins and 12 defeats from their 20 matches in the Border Amateur League Division 'B'. Huge thank you to all our sponsors for their backing this season and of course, massive thank you goes to Mick Hope for keeping the club going over the season and maintaining a level of enthusiasm for the job when the going got tough. His heart has always been in the right place when it comes to Hawick Waverley.

Thank you to Coldstream Ammies for the match and post match hospitality and also Raymond Hume for officiating.
