Headingley Bramhope made the trip to picturesque Ledsham to reacquaint themselves with a club they have a long standing friendship and rivalry, who were also promoted last season.

With a few light showers around and a less than promising forecast, skipper Stelfox put the home team in on winning the toss.

With the outfield nice and fast from the dry weather of recent weeks and the home team's knowledge of their own pitch anything offered to them by the HBCC opening pair of Clifton and Abid seemed to find its way to the short boundaries, Ledsham progressed to 19 before Dave Johnson was bowled by Abid, this brought Jonny Smales to the wicket to join Andy Barron, the trend continued with any width that was being offered being seized upon and the balls crashing towards the boundaries, despite a diving chance to Stelfox at 2nd slip, but the chance was to go down.

The innings ebbed and flowed as HBCC took a wicket or two and then another Ledsham batsmen dug in (#digin) for his team, Ian ‘Ted’ Rogers took an early contender for catch of the season , low to his right at slip to dismiss Andy Kelly, and Ifty put in his claim too with a superb catch at Silly mid on, parrying a drive from Dewhirst off the bowling of Abid up in the air, crashing to the ground face down in the process, but having the presence of mind , athleticism and spatial awareness to turn a grab the ball with an outstretched arm before it hit the turf.

Ledsham closed on 170-8, when represented a committed team effort by them but felt chaseable.

Chris Dalby and Ian Rogers opened HBCC’s reply and Jonny Smales and Andy Kelly the attack for Ledsham, both generating some good pace.

Ted was the first to go, clean bowled by Kelly for 4, this brought Sandeep Dutta to the crease, and Sandy was to build his best innings so far for the club, Chris moved things along for HBCC before falling to a Boothroyd catch off the bowling of Johnson for 13, Stuart Costello joined Sandy in the middle for arguable the best partnership of the HBCC innings moving the score along to 80 just after drinks and Stu previously composed and stylish knock ended with a bit of a swoosh for 14. Ledsham really seized the initiative, despite Sandeep batting stylishly at one end, no one stayed with him, as Charlie Baker, Steve Manton, Ifty Hussain and Mark Stelfox all fell for the combined total of 7 (all Ifty’s). Sandeep passed his first major milestone for the club bringing up his 50, before falling to Andy Kelly for 54. HBCC know they have a tail that can wag, and whilst there’s life there’s hope etc, but Ledsham were seriously in the box seat now, and despite Clifton, Gilks and Abid rallying for the team, Smales returned to claim another couple of wickets and HBCC subsided to 121 all out.

All in all not a great ‘day at the office’ for the Headingley Bramhope team against a good and committed Ledsham team who were great value for their win.

Plus points would be the batting of Sandy, a couple of brilliant catches for Ted and Ifty, a sure fire winner of ‘best stumping without the ball’ by Chris Hogg in conjunction with ‘worst umpiring decision ever’ by Will Clifton, fortunately the Ledsham lads (and Ifty) pointed out the ball was somewhere near the boundary and sanity resumed.
