On a scorching afternoon Headingley Bramhope welcomed Shadwell A to Glen Road. Skipper Stelfox won the toss and opted to have a bat.

Chris Dalby and Ian Rogers as they did in the first fixture settled into their innings and got the scoreboard ticking at close to 4 an over, with Shadwell deploying a pretty defence field there were lots of ones and twos on offer and the openers gladly took them as well as sending the odd bad ball to the boundary too.
With lots of scoring areas open to the batsmen the tins kept rattling over, Ted in particular was brutal on anything loose smashing 4 sixes including a huge square cut from the middle of the square. Rogers was indeed the first past his 50, as the steady tempo was maintained, Ted looked to be closing in on back to back ‘tons’ against Shadwell until he fell for a superb 85.
Charlie Baker joined Dalbs in the middle but unusually barely troubled the scorers, departing for just 1, Matt Frosdick quickly got the scoreboard moving mixing up boundaries and singles, Chris Dalby passed the 50 mark as the teams total continued to climb, before Froz departed for a breezy 22.
Humayun Rafique smashed a quick 27 including 3x6 and 1x4 as HBCC kept their foot off the gas, before Chris Dalby fell for an excellent 78. Gul chipped in with a quick 17 to keep things moving. A remarkable over by Cook that read 4-W-6-W-6-W left HBCC batsmen scurrying for kit, and with the supposed incoming batsmen nowhere to be seen, a grumpy skipper performed a quick change and ended up arriving at the crease in trainers, no lid and still trying to get his thigh pad on.
Mark Stelfox and Tom Atkinson kept up the pressure to the end, with the skipper claiming his first league 6 for some time and running hard with Tom, who clipped a nice 4 along the way to finish 13 and 10 not out respectively.
HBCC 269-8
Tom Atkinson and Abid Hussain opened the attack for HBCC, and immediately had the Shadwell batsmen under pressure, Tom clean bowling both leaving the visitors on 4-2. Abid was causing problems from Kevin Manton End, but was unlucky to see a few edges evade the fielders. Vincent was the 3rd batsmen to depart; caught by Ifty Hussain close in off Abid’s bowling.
Tom was quickly back in on the act, clean bowling the Shadwell number 5 for just 1, and number 6 for a duck, aided by a catch from Ian Rogers behind the stumps. At 21-5, a win was looking unlikely for the visitors, but as in the first fixture the batsmen then dug in and made life more difficult for the bowlers, Vyas and Gaw taking Shadwell to 47 before Vyas was snared LBW for 20 by Gilks.
Gaw was smartly stumped by Rogers off the bowling of Gul Hussain, and the same combination saw Ted take a catch to get rid of Sharrat. Cook departed run out, foolishly taking on Charlie Baker’s arm, Rogers (finally) completing the run out, leaving Shadwell 62-9.
With the overs ticking by a number of bowlers were used to try and find the elusive wicket, the batsmen saw off Tom’s final two overs, Stelfox tried the trundle to no avail with one routine catch evading Steve Gilks at slip. Humayun was introduced into the attack and immediately caused problems for the batsmen but still the wicket wouldn’t come.
For the 42nd over Skipper threw the ball back to Steve Gilks hoping the tall spinner’s bounce and turn might create a chance against the resolute Steve McLellan, with the second ball of the over and with fielders crowded around the bat Gilks tempted McLellan into a drive and found the edge, Matt Frosdick at slip flung himself high to his right to take a superb catch to dismiss Shadwell and win the extra point.

Tom Atkinson bowled superbly to take 4-23, and was well back up by all the bowlers

Shadwell 75 all out
