Much changed team takes maximum points at 2nd place East Keswick

The Posties made the short trip to East Keswick for the second time this season, for the long awaited rematch. With Matt Williams playing rugby, Chris St Clair Whicker away, Steve Manton catching up with his girls, Nobby & Will Clifton on Holiday, and Kamran, Gul and Assad all observing Ramadan it was a much changed Posties line up, with Ben Glynn, Ellie Saunders, Manav Shah and Mike Knight all stepping up for the cause.

Saunders took over tossing responsibilities and after a thorough work out on foxy's coin tossing iphone app he called right, and we had a rare opportunity to bat first - Foxy and Manav opened for the Posties and Manav was the first to go with the score on just 2 clean bowled by the sharp Andy Barber, Jim Hinks who has been in great form of late came in at 3 but departed shortly after, again falling to Barber aided by a good catch by James Cosgrove, Ifty Hussein took the attack to East Keswick, looking in great nick as he carved out a quick 20 before being snared leg before by Barber senior.

A particularly gluey knock by Stelfox was ended by Cosgrove for a hideously dour 18, and Aussie superstar Brian Bruce Dunbar celebrated extending his tenure with the posties for another season with a stylish duck, leaving the posties on a precarious 71-5. Matt Frosdick was looking assured at the other end and set about stabilising matters - moving the score along to 106 with Nick Saunders before Saunders fell for 9, LBW to Kamran

Jim Branton didn't trouble the scorers before Ben Glynn en debut marched to the crease, bring some enthusiastic running and decent technique with him, before being run out with the score on 127, this brought together Mike Knight and Matt Frosdick and arguably the decisive passage of the game, Matt's knock in the context of the game was superb, getting himself in, protecting the tail, being considered in his shots and accelerating bit by bit as the overs ticked by. Mike Knight also deserves huge credit 'manning up' for the cause and batting really intelligently, leaving what could be left, blocking the straight ones and working brilliantly with Froz.

Froz passed his half century and then with Knighty really put the hosts under pressure running hard to turn ones into twos and smacking the boundaries when the opportunities arose, including a monstrous huge straight six, Mike fell to a run out in the final over having moved the score along to 161, as the posties finished on 161-9

Hirst and Arumugen opened the reply for East Keswick and made slow but steady progress against Bruce and Ifty, taking the score to 33 before the introduction of Ben Glynn saw Hirst miss time a pull shot and Jim Branton take a good catch. Jim Hinks who had 'put his hand up' for keeping responsibilities was looking great behind the stumps, the score had only moved on by 3 when Brian Bruce Dunbar claimed the valuable scalp of EK number 3 James Cosgrove, well caught by Ifty Hussein at mid off.

Ashfral, who had batted well against the posties earlier in the season departed for just 4, well caught behind the stumps by Hinks off the bowling of Bruce, Kandasmy & Arumugen did a good job for EK, rebuilding their innings after 3 quick wickets, looking pretty settled but not getting on top of any of the bowlers, Jim Branton again bowled brilliantly , going for just 18 of his 12 overs, again not taking the wickets he deserved, but applying pressure for the team.

Two quick wickets for the impressive Ifty Hussein saw EK slip to 105-5, Ben Glynn took a fine catch, which he seemed pleased with off Bruce to get rid of Chapman, before we saw the unlikely scenario of a Nick Saunders throw majorly contributing to a run out , Bruce took a couple more to take himself to 5-38 off his 12 before Ifty finished things off clean bowling Andy Barber to finish on 3-25 off 11.33 as EK finished on 124.

This was a proper posties win, against a good, committed East Keswick team with everyone making a contribution, good work posties, particularly proud of you today
