A disappointing fielding display overshadows a near-match-winning partnership between Jack Mason and Sandy Dutta.

Travelling to Long Marston with painful memories of the previous season,Headingley were looking to cement their place in the promotion spot with the half way point in the season looming.

Losing the toss on what looked like a flat deck was not the best start, but Abid Hussain, Tom Atkinson and Tom Lawson kept things fairly tight early on. With the odd ball flying away down the hill making it tough for the fielders.

Wickets fell at regular intervals, with a special mention to Harish who despite going wicketless, bowled through cramp and had the batsmen in all sorts of trouble.

Ted took two sharp catches early on and Tom Lawson did for the No.3 and 4.

Barnet made it tough for the bowlers at the death with some brutal hitting and Marston posted a good total of 223-6.

The strong start that was needed sadly did not come, with Ted falling early and some good bowling from Barnet kept the run rate down.

Mason and Dutta then started to accumulate runs and slowly brought the required run rate back down to a get-able rate. Both players batted well and enjoyed getting full worth for their shots on the outfield. Sandy perished short of 50 and Baker topped off his abysmal day with a mistimed flamingo to deep mid-wicket.

Quote of the day goes to Long Martson's fielder, with the shout, 'All we have to do is get Matt Damon out!'

Frosdick came in and continued his good run of form, smashing the bowlers to all parts and along with Mason it seemed the pair could sail to the target. But Jason Bourne was first to go for a brilliant 75, picking out out to deep mid-on while Fros couldn't even attempt to get back in his crease after trying to hit the bowler back to Glen Road.

The lower-order continued to push on but with every fielder on the boundary, it was tough to score over 12 an over as we fell 8 runs short in a thrilling game.

Only the second loss of the season leaves Headingley in second, one point clear of Marston. The aim will certainly now be to go the second half of the season unbeaten, with all the big games on home turf.
