but a strong performance from Woodstock in the second half saw them pull two goals back & almost complete the comeback as Headington hung on for the three points.

The visitors might have been in front as early as the third minute, Marley Joseph’s snap shot well saved by Joshua Cullen after Ben Curtis’s run along the goal line had created the opening. Headington were not to be denied for long though & took a sixteenth minute lead, left back Ollie Zaja firing home from the edge of the penalty area after good work from Aaron Williams. Cullen saved well from Curtis before Headington doubled the lead some ten minutes later. Joseph struck a ferocious volley that cannoned off the underside of the cross bar with substitute John Webb (on early for Kyle Perry who had suffered an eye injury) reacting first to convert the rebound. Six minutes from half time Webb had his second & Headington’s third with a low drive from the right side of the penalty area.

If Headington had looked in control in the first half it changed in the second, Woodstock playing at a much livelier pace & continually putting the visitors under pressure. Jacob Haynes got their first following a corner kick twelve minutes after the re-start & when the impressive Callum Green scored direct from a free kick from twenty five yards out it really was game on. With headington reduced to ten men after Curtis was red carded for foul play Woodstock continued to apply pressure but regaining their composure the A’s were able to see out time & deny Woodstock a share of the points.
