A competitive opening fifteen minutes gave no indication of what was to follow, Ollie Zaja’s confidently dispatched penalty after Jack Hayhurst was brought down starting an avalanche of first half goals. Kyle Perry had the second within three minutes & Hayhurst notched the third & fourth with just twenty five minutes gone. Showing no let-up & moving the ball around at pace Headington netted another five times before the break, a total of nine goals in an astonishing twenty eight minute period. Zaja & Perry both scored for a second time, whilst Hayhurst completed a ten minute hat trick & Chris Peck & Kyle Pullin took the total to nine.
The pace understandably eased off in the second half before Hayhurst took his personal tally to four & substitute Jake Chambers & defender Sharman Davis completed the scoring. Although Newent never gave up, in truth Headington could have had even more, hitting the Newent woodwork on a further four occasions. Although this result moves them back to second place in the table Headington will now take an extended break from league action, with the next three weeks at home in three cup competitions.
