2nd team match report v Brooklands

Saturday 20th April 2019

As the 2nd team started their journey in Division 1, a welcome to the league by the hosts was on the cards.

Ali went out to the middle for his first toss of the season and was unfortunately put into bat on a tricky looking green pitch.

As the innings took action Ans started to show what the hype was about on his debut as he started to dispatch the bowling to all ends of the ground and quickly reached his maiden century. A first ball LBW for Asim saw Ayaz join Ans on a long hard fought innings, racking up 150+ together. A flurry of wickets saw Abbas play some lovely shots before departing quickly with Amar lending Shabaz a hand and reaching 228-6 before the declaration.

The second innings began in an unusual manner with lack of control in the bowling and some fielders on their heels. A couple of dropped catches reminded, us as a unit, how important the basics will be going forward.

Brooklands lost a few quick wickets and were held by some discipline bowling by Hux, Ayaz and Amar. However this was a strategy which worked for the opponents as they started to pick the gaps and the weaker fielders to reach the total with 5 wickets down.

A stern lesson was learnt as a unit to step up our game in all areas but the positives were also on display in all aspects with the ever reliable Cheema stepping up to Join Ans on his Maiden century and his Maiden Man of the match.
