Heaton Mersey won the toss and decided to bat first.
It was a cold and wet evening as we started our big quarter-final. In the 3rd over, disaster struck as Mark Lever was clean bowled by a straight one. Taylor Entwistle and Hassan Raza built a good recovery partnership and subsequently Hassan retired in the 9th over. Shortly after, their young bowler got Taylor on 22 and at the other end, Joseph Glare was caught behind (though hotspot may well have concluded it hit him on the arm!). Richie Hayward started well until he was bowled by young Kennedy. After a bit of a collapse we had just 90 to defend. Hassan had top scored with his 30*.
It was a promising start with Keeper Adam Critten taking an early catch from Hassan. Then in the 6th over, Adam was at it again catching the other opener courtesy of an out swinging ball by Mark . After this, Ashley’s 3 and 4 put on a good partnership taking the score forward worryingly well. After the number 3 retired, things looked a little brighter when Alex Hall took their number 5 out for a golden duck. Unfortunately, there just weren’t enough runs on the board and Ashley posted the required total with 4 overs to spare.
A disappointing end to this year’s cup campaign!
