Alan joined the club in the 1970s and first played in the three-quarters before moving to the back row, where he was known as a fearless competitor. Over the years, he played for all of the senior sides and captained the 2nd XV on two occasions and the 3rd XV on five occasions. He was known to always be available to play for anyone and anywhere and if there was no game at Heaton Moor, would seek out a game at a neighbouring club – his motto was 'I've always got my boots!'. Not content with playing regularly on Saturdays, he also played for the Evergreens of Rugby - EGOR - on Sundays later in his career and was still playing into his mid-60s.

His funeral will be in the Rowan Chapel at Stockport Crematorium on Thursday 14th April at 3:15 p.m.
