First taste of rugby, and some welcomed success!

In our first taste of rugby for the year, Heaton Moor travelled to Altrincham with a youthful squad, apart from the additions of veterans Dave Kelly, Martin Shelley and Terry Chatterton, to partake in a 10-aside touch tournament! The tournament was made up of clubs who all play at least 1 level above Moor so we took to the field as likely-underdogs.

Our first game was played against Altrincham Kersal 1XV and as both teams spent most of the game finding their feet and getting to grips with the new rules, it was never likely to be a thriller. This was in fact the case, and Moor fell short and the game finished 1-0.

We then played Didsbury Toc-H 2XV, and at this point things began to click as Moor got their head's round the new rules! Tries from Dan McDonagh, Dave Adebo, Dylan Starkie and Ex-1XV captain Danny Child gave Moor a comfortable 5 -1 win.

Having now found their feet, Moor faced the always tough challenge of Preston Grasshoppers. Moor took the lead when Danny Child kicked and re-gathered to dot down next to the posts. Grasshoppers then drew level through a well worked breakaway try which brought the scores even. Moor then went 2-1 down but then drew level through a well worked try that saw 2XV Captain Martin Shelley go over in the corner. Although Moor were in the ascendancy and went close a few times the game sadly ended 2-2 and Moor finished 3rd in their group.

This meant Moor faced local rivals Didsbury Toc-H 1XV in their final game. The game was a very even match with the score being 1-1 at full time. Fatigue began to set in following 3 consectutive games, and our small but mighty squad fell juust short with Toc-H scoring a "Golden Point" try to seal the victory.

All in all, a great day out for Moor and all the lads thoroughly enjoyed it. Even if some results didn't go their way.
