Barren run ends with victory at the Rec

Facing opponents equally desperate for points the Lions were boosted by the return of Mac Gee from suspension and there was a change in goal with Adam Wengrow replacing the injured Tom Coombe.
Kicking downhill the Lions began in positive vein imposing themselves on the game for the first 15 minutes with Foreman in the visitors goal forced into action on a number of occasions and relieved to see a couple of efforts from good situations put wide. A tremendous tackle by Gee cut out the danger at the other end as an opponent lined up a shot and then from a quick break Ross Pantry glanced a header wide of goal from an inviting cross by Kegan Charlesworth.
As the half reached the midway stage Acle began to come much more into the game with the Lions guilty of some untidy play at the back at times but on 32 minutes Hellesdon made the breakthrough, skipper Jack Love, close to the left by line, somehow squeezing a low shot into the net between Foreman and his near post.
With a number of refereeing decisions being contested things got a bit fractious but the Lions looked to be heading to the interval with an important lead until they conceded a soft goal just before the half time whistle when Garner was able to find the net from a free kick all too easily with Wengrow in no position to save his shot over the wall.

Half time: Hellesdon 1 Acle United 1

Jack Hurrell put an opportunity over the bar early in the second half and Foreman then claimed the ball of the head of Charlesworth from a good cross by Keeley. But on the hour mark the Lions retook the lead when a fine ball from Lewis Wardale set Keeley free to run into the box from the right before slipping the ball past the keeper. The Lions pressed hard to extend their advantage and a third goal arrived on 80 minutes when Keeley met Love's cross into the box from the left with a stunning volley that gave Foreman no chance.
The closing stages then saw Wengrow produce two great saves, one a spectacular stop to his right, as the Lions registered a vital victory to the delight of the new management team and home support.
Mom. Joe Keeley for a tireless display and two quality finishes.
