Help determine the future of Helsby Community Sports Club - HAVE YOUR SAY!

Now in a new home, the membership of Helsby Community Sports Club looks considerably different from what it was pre-pandemic.

Since opening our doors 12 month's ago, membership has now more than doubled from 500 members, to more than 1,000!

Coupled with that, we now see our club being utilised by a wide varierty of users - fitness classes, tea dances, mother and baby groups, martial arts classes, private bookings, etc.

At it's core, however, Helsby Community Sports Club is about one thing - Sport. And whilst non-members are welcome, we are primarily a Members' club. Bringing in revenues from outside of the club will be vital to help ensure that the club is sustainable and can operate on a sound footing - but first and foremost the club exists to promote and nurture grass roots sport (and obviously in the case of Helsby RUFC - that means Rugby).

The development of the new clubhouse, however, has proven the benefits of a collaborative multi-sports approach. Neither Helsby Rugby Club, Helsby Football Club, Helsby Tennis Club, Helsby Running Club or Helsby Bowls Club could have funded and delivered the new clubhouse working on their own - nor sustain it in the long term. Working together, however, we potentially have a bright future. A future that revolves around a bustling clubhouse which offers something for everyone - young and old alike, from the cradle to the grave. A home from home.

To debate how exactly we can best evolve , the club has engaged the services of a Sports consultant, Dave Southern (formerly of the RFU) to help facilitate the dialogue - to look at the club's general direction and ultimate objectives. For example :

  • What is the overall purpose of Helsby Sports club? What are the objectives of the individual sports/sections?
  • What do members wants for the Club itself and for their respective sections?
  • What are our options and potential strategies for the growth and development of the various club sections?
  • What do the membership think the role of the Sports Club within
  • the local community should be? (And on that basis how do we get to that position?)

Members should already have received an email detailing the dates and times of the sessions, however, due to a poor initial response these have had to be re-arranged.

This Wednesday (2nd March) there will be two sessions now taking place and the second group of meetings will now all take place on Tuesday 15th March.

These sections will be the final opportunity for members to take part in the process, so please consider attending. The sessions are open to ALL Rugby club members (including parents of Juniors), NOT just Committee members and club officials. WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU! The club's other resident sports clubs will ensure that their members take part in the debate, so it's important that Helsby Rugby club also has it's voice heard.

If you would like to attend, then please email your Name together with the Date and Time of the session you'd like to attend to davebensouthern@outlook.com and quote 'Rugby Section' in the body of your message when you do. (Confirming you can attend is essential, so that Dave is aware of numbers and can therefore plan the session accordingly.

Thanks in advance for your support in making this process a success.

Dates and Times of sessions (all to take place in the Ground Floor meeting room of the club) :
Wed 2nd March 5.00pm – 6.15pm
Wed 2nd March 6.30pm – 7.45pm
