Herts Senior Cup Semi-Final

The Tudors had returning goalkeeper Danny Boness to thank for their progress into the final of the Herts Senior Cup. After a successful loan spell at Cambridge City, Boness came straight into the side and made some excellent saves, especially in the second period as their struggling Isthmian League opponents belied their lowly league position and really took the game to the visitors.

Hemel took the lead somewhat against the run of play after just 15 minutes when a free kick out on the right was curled in by James Dobson and Sam Ashford rose unchallenged and was able to plant his header past Girling in the Cheshunt goal.

Both sides had chances after this, the best one falling to Dobson who struck his shot well only to see it hit his own player, Aaron Jarvis who just couldn’t get out of the way of the goal bound effort. The luckless Jarvis thought he had bagged his first goal for the Tudors shortly after, when he fired home from the angle only to see the linesman raise his flag for what looked like a tight offside call.

Cheshunt increased the pressure up to the break and Hemel did well to deny Beckles-Richards, Boness saving one handed down low after the first shot had been blocked by a defender. Beckles-Richards was denied a couple of times by Boness in the second half and ex Tudor Taylor Miles saw his shot crash off the frame of the goal.

Hemel were now restricted to the odd counter attack as Cheshunt pressed for an equaliser but a mixture of poor finishing and some excellent goalkeeping by Boness was enough to see the Tudors through to the final.

Not the best of performances on the night but the result is all that matters and its now four games unbeaten for Sammy Moore’s side and three successive clean sheets as well. Whilst goal scoring remains an issue the results have started to come which will give the team some confidence.

Next up is promotion chasing Dorking Wanderers who have been in and around the play off positions all season so it will be another tough test for the Tudors.
