Everlasting Tribute

Saturday the 11th of May saw the arrival of the Memorial Stone Bench finally placed in its position at Far Lane, Hepworth. After months of planning and hard work from excavation to carving the design the Lauren Brown Memorial Bench was laid at the top of the clubs main pitch today. The design and inscription by Laurens Mum Sara has been beautifully carved into the 4.9 tonne stone which has been kindley donated and hand crafted by Myers Group of Huddersfield. It has been a lengthy process which has seen them choose the correct size stone for the bench from their quarry at Crossland Moor. The highly talented craftsmen have then cut and dressed the bench and added the loving and thoughtful inscription that Sara, Laurens mum had chosen. It was then kindly transported to site via SE Broscombe transport by Dave who did an outstanding job in getting his articulated trailer to our ground before carefully setting the bench in place . The bench will be a permanent reminder of Lauren and offers a great view of the football fields and surrounding valley for all who care to sit and ponder the tragic loss of Lauren Brown .
Lauren had played for the ladies team for just short of three yearsand during her short time at the club she had became a regular starter in the squad as well as a much loved team mate and friend to all on and off the field of play. Lauren was life and soul of the dressing room on match days and all who knew her will I am sure feel that the bench is a fitting tribute to such a lovely young woman. As the inscription says "Time passes, memories stay, Loved and remembered every day". The placing of the bench will ensure that she will be remembered every day not just by her team but by her club, her family and her friends.
Please on your next visit to the club take time to sit and think not just about Lauren but anyone who has touched your heart as Lauren did to all within the ladies squad.
The ladies squad and the club feel very humbled and honoured and would like to express their sincere thanks to Myers Group, SE Broscombe Ltd, Richard who co ordinated everything and last by no means least Sara, Laurens mum and her family who are seen by all at Hepworth United FC as being a part of our football family forever.
