Narrow defeat

Leeds Medics & Dentists travelled to Far Lane looking to take a step towards the league title and put a dent in Hepworth's own title aspirations. Hepworth were out to avenge an early season heavy defeat away when they were struggling for players due to work and a long injury list. Hepworth set the pace from kick off and stormed forward as Amy Whiteley went one on one inside the first 2 minutes and forced the keeper top save bravely at her feet. LMD went straight up the other end and saw their effort come back off the post as the teams showed their potential early on. It was end to end action first Hepworth then LMD as both teams equalled each other out. On 19 minutes Amy Whiteley fired a shot straight at the keeper and 3 minutes later from a McCluskey corner centre half Lucy Page headed just wide. With 26 minutes gone it was LMD who struck first as Hepworth were slow to mark players and LMD went 0-1 up. Almost immediately Hepworth looked for the equaliser but Abigail Iggleden's solo effort went just wide. They thought again they had found the equaliser on 42 minutes when Rebecca Purchon fired a free kick from 20 yards out but it whistle past the top right corner. Turning round a goal down Hepworth again started brightly and on 51 minutes Sophie King shot straight at the keeper then 3 minutes later Iggleden saw her shot come back off the post. Hepworth finally opened their account when from a corner Merita Prebrezova headed home with a deflected header to make it 1-1. LMD went straight back up the other end and promptly went 1-2 in front. Their added to their lead on 60 minutes to go 1-3 up as Hepworth were slow to react in the box. With the game now flowing and open Hepworth got themselves back in the game as a Purchon free kick was passed on by Prebrezova to Iggleden who rounded the keeper to make it 2-3. Once again LMD went straight up the pitch and extended their lead to 2-4. Not to be out done Hepworth had an immediate response as as Kirsty McCluskey crossed Merita Prebrezova headed on for Jo Forrest to slot home to make it 3-4. It was now end to end stuff with both teams going for the kill a great game for the neutral but mot for either team playing. With the clock hitting 75 minutes LMD stretched their lead to 3-5 but the game was far from over. Hepworth hit back again on 80 minutes through Iggleden as the keeper spilled a cross come shot and Iggleden was there to tap home 4-5. Hepworth threw everything at LMD in the last 10 minutes but were unable to equalise again. Advantage LMD but Hepworth will not give up the fight. The Keystone Europe Ltd player of the match was awarded to Abigail Iggleden who just pipped Sophie King to the award.
