It is with sadness that we have learned that Rod Burt passed away on 5th March. We pass on our deepest sympathy to Suzanne and his family.

Rod played for the Club from 1961 to 1974. As an off spinner Rod played a leading role, in each of his first sevens seasons taking over 50 wickets. He also captained the 1st XI in 1968 and 1969.

Off the field Rod served on the Committee from 1963 to 1969, taking on the role of team secretary, jointly with his brother Peter for the 1963 season.

He returned to the Committee for a further five years from 1997, Brian Box wrote of Rod: “He was much involved in the running of the Club; his interests were more on the practical side. Fixing machines and repairing the pavilion were his forte.”

Due to ill health Rod was an infrequent visitor to Balls Park in recent years. However, he and Suzanne had a quiet, peaceful visit to the cricket ground last summer, when Jim Riddle sat and had a chat with them. Suzanne says that Rod enjoyed those few minutes.
