KB's ARRANGEMENT DETAILS ADDED

JIM BURGESS HAS ASKED ME TO ADVISE THAT KIT'S SERVICE IS ON THURSDAY 18TH APRIL AT ST PETERS CHURCH, BENINGTON @12.15 AND THEN AT THE RUGBY CLUB AFTERWARDS.

It is with great sadness that I must inform you of the death, yesterday, of a great friend of many of our members and friend.
.
Known as Kit or KB to most, his association with Hertford goes back in excess of 40 years and he was also, at one time, a physics teacher at Hertford Grammar School (Richard Hale).

Never afraid of new challenges he also spent time in the building industry, running a launderette in Spain, working for a time in the south sea islands and more latterly as a qualified electrical engineer providing a ‘Sparky’ service to not only the rugby club but many members homes and businesses.

He captained the 2nd XV in the 1970’s and even after retirement from the game kept up an extraordinary level of fitness, seen pounding the training pitches into his 50’s.

A man of great humour, an infectious laugh and with a zest for life he was never happier than when he was strumming his guitar. ( even if the rest of us weren’t!)

Many will have happy memories of a great friendship with Kit. One my favourites was a cold winter night after a frosty training session when the clubhouse filled up with smoke from the fire. Kit climbed a ladder and removed a tile that ‘someone’ had left covering the chimney pot! As he came down the icy roof an expletive, a crashing noise and then that laugh was heard as he slid down the roof, off the end and past the window onto the pitch outside. As many exited the clubhouse to assist, his only screams were those of laughter.

I had the pleasure of playing with Kit and both his sons, Jim and Matt. He now has another generation pulling on the blue shirt within our junior section. Our sympathies go out to them all and to his wife Val.

He had been ill, on and off for many years but like everything else, just took it in his stride.

A great clubman, a great friend, great memories, great times.

Thanks for the memories KB.

We will advise on further arrangements when they are available.
