With two weekends until the start of the league campaign for Hertford U16, the first day of the new season was a match day with fixtures at Letchworth and Royston respectively.
Both games provided our sides with a good test and an opportunity to experiment. Hertford A lost out 26-14 in a hotly contested fixture, against a Letchworth side who lost the Hertford A twice last year.
Key learning points - more work needed on the lineout and the breakdown area, decision making; playing too much rugby in our half , running at players rather than gaps, basic handling. When we ran good angles, ran through the phases and organised our defence we looked very good - but ultimately it boiled down to motivation and I have to hold my hands up and say that Letchworth just plain wanted the win more.
Hertford B had a convincing 34-7 win against Royston, thanks to those boys who helped make Royston's numbers up too.
A great start in both sides from new players to the squad - great to see you slotting in so well.
This week training will run on Wednesday 8-9.30pm - Torran will be leading the session.
Sunday will be training at home 10-12 on the training pitch. I'd always encourage you and your boys to pay a visit to the club house for a drink and a snack after training, it's an opportunity to chat with the coaches and other parents and help us to stay connected as an age group when we have the opportunity.
