With only a week and a half before the SCC sixes was due to start, Hibs got the call from the Cosmo president. Unfortunately they to pull out the Cosmo select team from the competition.
A few Hibs had already been selected into different catagories and with a few Cosmo players interested to play, Hibs took on the challenge.
Finalizing the squad a couple of days before the event, Hibs Cosmo select were ready managed by Clayte. The team consisted of:-
Tommy (Dutch Keeper)
Chalky
Jon Lukito (Hibs/Casuals)
Jamie Townsend (Hotspurs)
Dave Rew
Paul Cowie (Casuals)
Gary Corner
Andy Talbot
Anis (Hotspurs)
Dinesh (Casuals)
The open catagory kicked off at 10:30am, first up for Hibs was Hong Kong Football Club (which we heard had beaten the likes of Aston Villa in the Hong Kong event). We started brightly and unfortnately went down by 1 within the first 3 mins. However this seem the spark Hibs needed and for the rest of the 2 x 7 minute halves played magnificently. Excellent strikes from Paul C and Dave Rew getting on the sheet. Hibs ended up 4-1 to the good, and HKFC wondering what happened.
Next up was Ang Mo Kio NFL team, which Hibs took control early and kept it strong to the end (I think it was 2-0)
Last game of the day was against the Royal Bangkok Sports Club, again Hibs showed there strong play with RBSC hardly getting a sniff.
3 wins out of 3 a perfect start and a place in the quaterfinals on Sunday
The rest of the day was spent chilling out with a couple of beers watching Ray Parlour and Chalky play in the Master Category
Sunday morning fixture was up against Jollilads, hibs new the competition was getting stronger and had to put in a performance. Jollilads had some early opportunities which were either closed down or over the crossbar. Hibs were playing fluently creating our own chance, with one converted nicely from 20 yards from Paul C.
Hibs kept it tight knowing there would not be a lot of goals in this and with 4 minutes to go Jollilads found an equalizer. Hibs closed up not to allow another goal, and while mounting an attack. The Jollilads broke quick and slotted in the bottom corner with a minute to go.
Jollilads went on to lose in the final to The Young Courts Lions. Although Hibs were niffed at being knocked out, we felt we could have produced more and played some excellent stuff and are not a team to be underestimated
Quarter Finals in a very strong competition, Well Done Lads!!
