THE WEEKEND PREVIEW - WESTFIELDS FC v HIGHWORTH TOWN FC

Westfields FC vs Highworth Town: Weekend Preview

Highworth Town continue their travels this Saturday, 5 September, with a trip to Hereford to face league leaders Westfields FC.

Match Preview

The Worthians head into the fixture on the back of a hard-earned point at Droitwich Spa last weekend, moving up to 18th place in the table.

Westfields have enjoyed an impressive start to the campaign under new manager Danny Janes, who joined from Pershore Town. The Hereford side have won five of their opening six league matches and boast a perfect home league record. Their only recent setback came in the FA Cup, where they were beaten 5-2 by Nuneaton Town at Allpay Park.
Dan Cottrill is currently Westfields' leading scorer, with four goals in all competitions.

Last weekend, Westfields suffered their first league defeat of the season, losing 4-1 at Mangotsfield United. However, they responded positively on Bank Holiday Monday, securing a 1-0 victory over local rivals Hereford Pegasus.

The two sides shared home wins last season. Highworth were beaten 2-1 at Westfields in early April, with Otis Lewis scoring for us. Earlier in the campaign, the Worthians recorded an impressive 4-0 victory at The Elms, thanks to goals from Bailey Gallagher, James Griffiths, Liam Haines and Olly Stevenson.

Team News
We caught up with Highworth Town manager Ash Edenborough ahead of Saturday's trip:
"It was a really valuable point for us last weekend, especially considering the circumstances. We had to work hard for it and showed good character and organisation to come away with something. Hopefully we can build on that.

As for this weekend, it doesn't get much tougher than playing the league leaders. They are there for a reason and will be a very good side, but we have nothing to fear. If we play to our strengths, work hard for each other and cut out the mistakes, we'll give ourselves a chance.
We're looking a lot healthier this week, squad-wise, which is a big positive. Last weekend was difficult in terms of numbers and I had to get on the pitch myself. That's not something I plan on making a regular occurrence! Hopefully we'll have a few more bodies available this time and that will give us more options.

Playing away six times in a row in the league has been challenging. The travelling, recovery and lack of home games all take their toll, but you must deal with what's in front of you. Hopefully the experience of playing so often away from home and battling through difficult situations will benefit us later in the season.

Andy McKinlay (pictured below in white) has joined the coaching team and is a great addition. He brings plenty of experience and knowledge of the game, and he's someone the player’s respect. Having another person around the group with his experience can only be a positive, and we're all looking forward to working with him."
