Walthamstow 2 Highworth Town 0

When the 1st team were transferred into the Southern League it was clear long journeys into London and its surrounding areas were going to create some long days out. Yesterdays experience however exceeded our worst fears. A fleet of minibuses left Highworth at 1030 with those conveying the players, management staff and kit arriving 4 hours later after traffic issues around the A406 and a horrendous looking accident near to the ground. Not ideal preparation.
The actual game kicked off 15 mins late after the officials and Walthamstow agreed to at least some warm up time for the players and the first half Highworth display never really got into gear.
An 11th minute finish from Callum Ibe following a corner and a 35th min header from Demaray Anyadike gave the hosts a 2-0 lead at half time with a cross cum shot also striking the Highworth crossbar..
Highworth more than matched their opponents after the break. Home keeper Bradley Robinson kept out efforts from Jamal Chevelleau and Sol Pryce before brilliantly tipped another Chevelleau effort onto the crossbar. Dan Grieve may have done better with a close range header with Robinson again saved before James Walker in the Highworth goal made a decent double save to prevent Walthamstow increasing their lead. The last action of the game was a Walthamstow effort the hit the outside of Walker's left hand post.
