Pumas ease to win after a shaky 20 minutes.

Pumas lined up against Hope Valley A division side Stoney Middleton. After winning the Hope Valley B division & a second cup final in a row, it was lined up for a very competitive fixture.

First Half

Pumas started the game brightly opening the pitch up & making Stoney Middleton work hard for a touch of the ball. The first 10 minutes went by with a lot of possession without real penetration in the final third.

The first goal did come inside the first quarter when Wilson Coupe drove out from the back, playing a one two with Brad Hardy, followed by a one two with Joe statham before finding Ross Brown who slipped in Matt Cowen to find the bottom corner with the outside of his foot.

Then came the rocky spell, after losing a bit of discipline Stoney equalised with a long looping volley over the stranded Nathan Darwent filling in between the sticks. A few more chances followed for Stoney Middleton after a couple of breakdowns in midfield leaving the back line exposed.

Half Time

Pumas again started the second half well moving the ball across the pitch this time with a little more penetration with Joe Statham knocking some good diagonal balls out to full backs Jordan Smith & Evan Watson.

After a lot of control in the early stages of the half Pumas then fell behind. A fracas off the ball involving the Stoney Middleton centre forward resulted in a free kick to pumas on the edge of their own box. An error in playing the ball out resulted in a simple finish for the player previously involved in the fracas, a real lack of concentration from the Pumas more than anything.

The goal conceded seemed to galvanize the team & they began to step through the gears. It wasn't long before Evan Watson picked out Matt Cowen, Cowen then slipped in Jordan Smith who's scuffed shot found Luke Mitchel at the back post who obliged with a smart finish into the bottom corner.

Another goal shortly followed with Brad Hardy finding Jordan Holland in behind who's cross was smartly volley into the bottom left corner by Ross Brown from around the penalty spot.

The game was finally wrapped up shortly after with Evan Watson playing in a slightly higher role nicked the ball off the Stoney Middleton full back before rolling in Matt Cowen to roll into an empty net.

More chances followed for Pumas & in truth the game could have finished by a wider scoreline but there will be many positives to take into the next fixture. Credit must also go to Stoney Middleton who made it a real game during periods, missing a few key players could have cost them in the end.
