Hove III 7 - Holbrook 24
Holbrook made it eight league wins in succession, consolidating their top of the table spot in Sussex 4 (west) with a hard fought win at Hove III. The on form Holbrook side were expecting a tough challenge as they travelled down to Hove and the game that followed was a bruising physical encounter against a very solid and well drilled Hove III.
In a very entertaining and closely fought game, early pressure from Holbrook resulted in a converted try. Strong Hove counter attacks were resisted by determined Holbrook defence, who then took the game back to Hove for a second converted try to lead by 14 points to nil. A successful Holbrook penalty kick took the half time score to 0 -17.
A number of changes due to injury caused Holbrook to lose some of their shape early in the second half and following a period of constant pressure Hove were rewarded with a converted try, taking the score to 7 – 17. Holbrook rallied and the pack were quick to capitalise on a loose ball with Derek Foster scoring a try and that was coverted with a very impressive kick to take the score to 7 – 24.
Hove fought hard until the final whistle putting Holbrook under some intense pressure later in the game but the Holbrook defence held. Final score Hove 7 Holbrook 24.
In their final league encounter before the Christmas break Holbrook are away at Burgess Hill III on 10th December.
