Today’s cup 1/4 final result.

We faced Waverley today in the cup for the 2nd time in 3 weeks. The only disappointing thing about today was the amount of boys we had for the game. We had the bare minimum of 11 outfield players along with a half-fit Davy and Iain signed to help with squad numbers.

Hopefully this is a one-off as numbers so far this season have been excellent.

Just before the start of the match there was an almighty downpour but for kick-off it was back to just a drizzle. With the amount of rain it was going to make the surface tricky for both teams as the ball will just zip off the surface.

The game started and it was a cagey opening 10mins.

On the 15th minute our midfield went a missing and failed to track a through ball by Waverley and their striker nipped in and scored.

On the 17th minute we were awarded a free kick on the halfway line after the Waverley defender had a double touch of the ball from a throw-in from the weather conditions. Cloy stepped up and put in a great ball into the box which bounced and went into the top corner of the goal, albeit wind-assisted. It was still a great ball into the box.

On the 34th minute we took the lead when Maxi turned his player nicely played the ball to Sean who in turn played it to Owen and he scored.

Half time Wa 2 Waverley 1.

The 2nd half started and Waverley had the wind behind them.

On the 60th minute Gibbo made 2 good saves down low and clattered into the post at the same time. We cleared the ball but it went out wide to the midfielder out in the touchline. He hit a great shot/cross and it flew into the far away corner.

The game was fairly end-to-end for the remainder of the game although we had the better of the chances.

The match finished a draw with it going straight to penalties.

Cloy stepped up and scored 1-0
Gibbo then saves their 1st penalty. 1-0

They score 6-6
Marc scored 7-6
They score. 7-7
Maxi scored 8-7
They scored 8-8
Scott G scores 9-8
They score 9-9
Onto the keepers now and Gibbo slotted his penalty home 10-9
Gibbo then goes back on his line and then produces a good save to save their keeper’s penalty. 10-9

A good advert for Sunday football with a close game which could have gone either way.

We now play Dumfries in the semi finals.

Well done lads on your back-to-wall performance. We dug deep and then a bit more today when it was needed.

Next weeks sees us playing another home game our 10th home fixture out of 11 games played so far this season!!??‍♂️
