Holt 2s 17 - 43 Wymondham 2s

Thank you to Lee Bradshaw for this match report:

There seemed to be a very subdued feeling during the warm up this afternoon, efforts were made in the
changing room just before kick off to ramp it up. It was understandable with new players having their
first starts, players out of position with quite a lot on their shoulders in key phases during the game.
The first half started with a lot of pressure being applied by Wymondham, scoring their first
unconverted try within 5 minutes. We began to apply pressure, pressing them back, but could not get
our phase play going as we wanted. Midway through the first half attacking from the left Harvey
kicked through and won the foot race to score which went unconverted. Injury to Fowler 10 minutes
into the first half saw Williams step onto the park. Our discipline in the first half was outstanding in the
face of attrition. We turned round at half time 5 – 24.
Second half brought Justice on for Tagg, who took a knock early on in the first half. The turnaround to
our play from the whistle was outstanding, our aggression went up 20 percent and started building
phases and took it to Wymondham who started going backwards and they began to doubt themselves.
We produced some stunning rugby but just missed the final pass. Eventually we crossed their line with
Buxton bundling over. Up steps Williams, new to the squad, with the tee sitting on the whitewash of the
touch line 30m out, he drives the ball over the sticks, awesome. Wymondham applied more pressure
and some dogged defence, which saw Cabbell-Manners go off with a nasty split eyebrow, bringing on
Tucker to replace him.
The penalty count was going up quickly in our favour and our decision to take the scrums was correct,
as our lineout was just not working, and it kept the pressure on Wymondham, a yellow card for them 20
minutes from the end . The pressure finally allowed Goose to cross the line in the corner which went
unconverted. We continued the great pressure but could not convert further and Wymondham
capitalised on our mistakes and tiredness. Graham was awarded a yellow 10 minutes from the end.
Wymondham went on to finish the scoring. Heads up guys, this was against a well drilled, aggessive
side, and there were times when we were a pass from scoring, the second half was a great
improvement. Special mention goes to Sleightholme, Heath, front row, Williams, wing. Well done
guys.
