Manager Simon Daws given reprieve after appeal by players.

In what some will see as a bizarre turn around, asking themselves what was all that about, it was back to business yesterday at home to Aylestone Park FC.

After a tense meeting between First Team Squad members and Committee on Thursday, a working compromise was agreed between the Club’s Committee and First Team players, which saw Simon Daws back in his post for Saturday’s home match to Aylestone Park.

New Chairman Mr Len Hallows faced the players and gave his interpretation of events earlier in the week and listened to the impassioned pleas from the players to re-instate Simon Daws. The players felt that the squad had been improved and that performances though not wholly productive had been good against some higher calibre opposition, that the squad with incoming new players, was gelling and they wanted more time to show that the team would improve and better last seasons finish of eleventh place in the EMCL Premier Division.

After lengthy discussions and a request from the players that the manager be given until Xmas to turn round the team’s fortunes.

Mr Hallows then consulted with other Committee members. It was felt that the players’ feelings were so strong, no matter what outsiders may consider, what had been done, had been done and it was time to put this behind and move on for the good of Holwell Sports FC.

It was therefore agreed that Simon Daws be re-instated with a view to seeing what progress had been made in the team’s performances and league position by the end of December.

The unfortunate fall out from this situation was the resignation of Vice-Chairman Paul Teare and resignation from Committee duties of long term club stalwart Roger Hodson. However Roger will retain his position as Howell’s Youth Team Secretary.
