Bonus points !!!!!!

The Lacemen made a confident start and took an early lead courtesy of an Ollie Cave (sponsored by Robert Tyers Plumbing Ltd) penalty, following good approach play from the forwards. The visitors hit back with a penalty of their own, before Jason Hannay (sponsored by Will Goulden) picked up a yellow card when he was penalised for a ‘no arms tackle’ in support of his brother Nathan Hannay (sponsored by JKS Flooring - Mark Chambers) seemingly just trying to push him over the try line – deemed dangerous play by the match official! The Lacemen refused to let the matter break their resolve and two further Cave (sponsored by Robert Tyers Plumbing Ltd) penalties took the home side into a 9-3 lead. Bude bagged a yellow card and then Dom Hawke (sponsored by The Lantern Shop Sidmouth) became the second Honiton player to have a 10 minute spell in the sin bin. With rain teaming down Ollie Hyland (sponsored by Jays School of Motoring) created an opening for Jack Proctor (sponsor available) to cross for the first Laceman’s try, but a second Bude penalty left Honiton leading 14-6 at the interval. What was clear in the opening exchanges of the second half was that ‘the next score’ would be pivotal to the afternoon’s outcome.
It was the Lacemen who got the all-important score, just three phases from the restart with Josh Rice (sponsored by Ultim8 Construction) initiating the move that ended with Olly Hyland (sponsored by Jays School of Motoring) scoring to bag his first Laceman try for four years! Ollie Cave (sponsored by Robert Tyers Plumbing Ltd) slotted the conversion and Honiton increased their lead to 21-6.It was soon 28-6 as Ben Webber (sponsored by Steve Webber Garden Services) side stepped his way through a number of challenges to score and again Cave (sponsored by Robert Tyers Plumbing Ltd) slotted the extras.
Bude's set piece was a real strength all game as Honiton found it difficult to contain multiple driving mauls and powerful scrums.
Under the pressure, Honiton’s defence finally cracked with Bude driving over from close and closing the gap ever so slightly to 28-11.
With 15 minutes to play the Lacemen completed the scoring with Olly Hyland (sponsored by Jays School of Motoring) serving up a superb kick that was gathered by winger Ben Kidson (sponsor available) to carry to and over the line, Cave (sponsored by Robert Tyers Plumbing Ltd) rounded things off with his third conversion.
There were many great performances across the board once again but the Honiton Man of the Match award went to Ben Webber (sponsored by Steve Webber Garden Services) for his great try and all-round solid performance from full back.
This Saturday (September 23), the Lacemen 1st and 2nd XVs travel to Cornwall for a double header of action 1st team against Hayle and 2nd team against Wadebridge.
