Excellent game from both sides but defence and productive visits to the twenty two sees the Lacemen come out on top.

Saturday saw Honiton back in league action after last weeks disappointment against one of the front runners and this week it was the turn of mid table Tavistock to visit Allhallows. Have lost a hard fought battle three weeks ago against the Lacemen in the cup, they returned with a bolstered side and it was clear they were looking for revenge.

In front of an impressive crowd the Moorlanders elected to play against the infamous slope and they started well and for the first 15 minutes Honiton really saw little of the ball and it was just tackle after tackle as they defended their territory. Having weather the storm Honiton made a rare visit to the visitors twenty two and by being patient with the phases it was player coach Nathan Hannay who crashed over for the first score of the game. It was then back to defending but in similar fashion Honiton had a good break out and ball delivered to the backs was used well and this Time Cheesy Hyland charged over form 20 meters out Ollie Cave kicked the extras again and against the run of play Honiton were 14 points up with two visits to the oppositions twenty two. Then to rub salt into Tavistock's endeavours Cave slotted a penalty right on the whistle which gave the Ton a comfortable 17 point lead a the break.

The second half was no less competitive with both sides going hammer and tongs at each other however as the opposition tired Honiton with a lot more possession started to make inroads with the ball and it was from another well worked play that Cave managed to finish well out wide and he added the extras with a great kick form the tough line.
There was then some excellent passages of play for Honiton none more so than when Josh Rice broke from deep fed to Hannay who slipped the ball to Nick Guilbert and when it got to Ben Kidson but he was just hauled down short but it looked impressive and would have been a great try. Tavistock dug deep and as said gave as good as they got but again right on the whistle Honiton swept up the field and this time Ben Kidson was not denied and to crown off a superb kicking display side Cave split the uprights for out wide for a 100% success rate and Honiton were home by a comfortable 34-0 margin which leave them in 4th tucked in behind the leading three who all won as well.

This was a great game to watch and to be fair the score line did not reflect the part Tavistock played in it. Honiton were certainly worth the win and whilst not complaining, as they did played very well, there was still dropped balls and forward passes so there is still room for improvement as well. So it's exciting times at the Ton.
Once again the victory was built on a great defence especial in the first half Adam Thompson controlled the game well at 10, the senior forwards were as impressive as ever and the young guard in the pack also put in a good shift as well. There was a good debut for Wesley Keywood at the back but it was Ollie Hyland who won the man of the match award as he was robust through out.

Next week it's a trip up to North Devon to play Torrington as the league get to the half way stage of the season
