Having played schoolboy rugby in Leicester, Steve continued his involvement with the game wherever he travelled, playing for clubs in Oldham and Kilmarnock. So it was inevitable that when he and his wife, Penny, moved to Inglenook Cottage in Castleton in 1998 that he would seek out the local rugby club and so began his service with Hope Valley RFC.
A regular in the team's second row, Steve also became heavily involved with the Club's committee, holding just about every post over the past 20 years, whilst he and Penny were keen supporters of the Club's social activities, not least the annual dinner and the Club has marked his efforts by making Steve an Honorary Life Member.
Away from his involvement with Valley Steve is an avid Scotland fan and travels far and wide to watch rugby, including a biannual trip to the Calcutta Cup games at Murrayfield, which it is hoped will continue, even though there'll be a few more miles involved.
The Club thanks Steve and Penny for all their hard work and wishes them all the best for the future in Torquay (the new Basil and Sybil?)
