On a beautiful Saturday in N. Carolina, Huntsville battled against the former D1(now D3) Charlotte Rugby Club.
Huntsville electing to kick had predicted that Charlotte would respond for field position if pressed deep. After a series of phases, Huntsville was able to draw Charlotte offsides and allowed Tyler Lancaster to strike a 40+ meter penalty. Huntsville would lead 3-0. Lancaster would go 3-3 on penalties and 0-1 on conversions.
Huntsville being short of some key players lacked continuity in their attack and ultimately suffered as Charlotte was able to capitalize on several occasions. The first half would close at 24-6 Charlotte.
The second half would be more of the same, as Huntsville struggled to find their rhythm and the CRFC would find holes in the Huntsville defense. After a powerful run and final score by replacement winger Brad Montgomery, the day would close out with an unfortunate end for the Turkeys. Charlotte defeats Huntsville 67-14.
Huntsville wishes the South a promising run for their birth in the National Championships and Huntsville shall prep to take the stage in 2014.
