Hyndland Win High-Scoring Friendly Match

Following the short notice cancellation of the their league match at home to Mull, Hyndland managed to organise a friendly match against Paisley's 2nd XV at Scotstoun. The side were keen to bounce back from last week's disappointment against the Glasgow University Medics and named a strong squad with plenty of cover in every position.

Well-drilled and highly motivated, Hyndland began the game on the front foot. Having worked their way into the opposition 22, centre Madden capped some fine team play by bursting through the home defence to score his first try for the club. This opened the floodgates as Hyndland dominated the opening exchanges to build a comfortable lead. Madden doubled his tally for the day while MacIver capped an excellent personal display with a hat-trick of tries inside the opening half hour.

Towards the end of the first half Hyndland eased off and some complacency allowed their opponents back into the game with two scores against the run of play. However, a further try from winger Marwick ensured that the side entered the half-time interval with a 36-10 advantage.

The side were pleased with how they had approached the first half and aimed to continue their good work in the second period. The start of the half couldn't have been better for the home side as fleet-footed winger Eadie scored a superb solo effort to open his account for the afternoon. Doak, moved from 15 to 9, was next to cross the line the further stretch his side's lead.

Credit to Paisley who never gave up and added three more tries of their own in the second half, however Doak made sure that his side finished in the ascendancy with his second try of the afternoon.

Final Score:

Hyndland RFC 53
Paisley RFC 2nd XV 25

Tries: Madden (2), MacIver (3), Marwick, Eadie, Doak (2)
Conversions: Smith (3) MacNicol (1)

Following a tough game against one of the league's top sides last weekend, a rejuvenated Hyndland side exorcised the demons of that defeat by putting this week's opposition to the sword. The forwards put in another excellent shift, dominating both the set piece and open play. Moir was a colossus in the lineout, enabling his side to steal opposition ball time after time.

The back-line were a constant threat as evidenced by the scoreline. MacIver's fine recent form was rewarded with a hat-trick of tries as the opposition could not contain his strength or speed with the ball in hand. Finally congratulations to Scott Torrance who made his debut for the side with a promising second half cameo from the bench.

The side now have a few training sessions to prepare for the upcoming visit of Moffat RFC to Scotstoun on the 26th of January in the next round of league fixtures.
